Programs

PDD

The mission of the program is to support adults with developmental disabilities to be included in community life and to be as independent as possible.

Mariam's Footsteps has Five 3-bed homes for adults who require or benefit from a degree of care of supervision beyond which family or community can provide. Supported adults will be either males or females who have PDD and AISH status and have been identified as requiring support. Adults with severe mental and / or physical handicaps may be unsuitable depending on their particular needs. Mariam's supports a safe living environment but is not a "secure" programme therefore violent and/or suicidal adults will not be admitted to the program. A risk assessment is done prior to entry and matching for persons served compatibility is conducted prior to entry of adults. Mariam's strives to provide the highest quality of support in a safe environment.

Mariam's will aid each adult in the development of a life plan to support goal achievement with both long and short -term goals. Achievement will be measured in the areas of: self-determination, social inclusion, mental, physical and emotional well being and rights. Concentration will be on increasing independence and inclusion in the community. To this end, Mariam's provides support to assist adults to develop and improve daily living skills, problem solving skills, coping skills and social skills. Goals will be visited once a month with a formal review including all engaged stakeholders occurring once per year.
