Message from the Board

Mariam’s Footsteps Inc. believes that in order to accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream and, not only plan but also believe. It is from our close and extended communities, vulnerable children, youth, adults and families that we’ve learned vision is the art of seeing things invisible – seeing the potential of each and every person as their unique being and supporting their renewal, growth and success. How wonderful it is that Mariam’s Footsteps Inc. has not waited a single moment more than necessary before starting to improve our worlds.

This is an exciting and challenging time for our organization as we have adapted the philosophy of care to recent changes in our demographic population and in response to the needs of our community of at risk children and their families, as well as vulnerable young adults with developmental disabilities. Our homes provide an atmosphere where the children, youth and young adults can be safe, express their individuality and learn life skills to promote independence. Our family based programs are family-focused where the children are kept safe and can continue to grow while parents and/or other family members may gain the knowledge from experienced staff committed to the best interests of the children and youth. The life of a person is a circle from childhood to adulthood and within each person lies our future and our past. It is our devout commitment to ensure that Mariam’s Footsteps Inc. sets the benchmark for excellence in services which provide, protect, nurture, teach and restore children, youth, adults and their families.

Ultimately, Mariam’s Footsteps Inc. would like to address and further impact the multiple challenges facing most struggling individuals and families. These issues include homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, parenting skills and mental health issues of both children, youth, adults and potentially their family members. Our long range goal is to improve the way individuals, families, communities and the greater society care for our most vulnerable and their families by affecting systematic change and by staying focused on the larger ultimate goal; to ensure that more individuals are safe, healthy and prepared for life.

Since the individuals referred to our programs are as complex as they are unique, few require only one service and most need a myriad to help them overcome the challenges that brought them into our care.

It is not the strongest of species that survive, not the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.
